More Than a Name on a Building: The Spirit of Lisa Maloff at LMUC
Lake Tahoe lost one of its brightest lights, but her legacy continues to shine every day in the lives she touched and the opportunities she made possible.
Lisa Maloff, lovingly known as the Angel of Tahoe, was a passionate philanthropist whose generosity transformed the South Lake Tahoe community in profound and lasting ways. Among her many gifts to the region, one of the most impactful is the Lisa Maloff University Center (LMUC) on the Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) campus.
A Legacy of Opportunity
Lisa Maloff believed deeply in the power of education and community. Her extraordinary donation to LTCC made the dream of a four-year degree attainable for students who, for many reasons, couldn’t leave Tahoe to pursue higher education. The University Center she made possible gives students access to bachelor’s degrees, teaching credentials, master’s programs, and even doctorates—right here in South Lake Tahoe—thanks to LTCC’s partnerships with University of Massachusetts Global and Washington State University Global Campus.
As recent graduate Kimberly Burton shared:
“Leaving Tahoe to get my degree was not an option for me, and her incredible donation made the Lisa Maloff University Center possible at LTCC. It allowed me to earn my bachelor’s degree, which led to an amazing career. I am indebted to her and so thankful for the life I now have thanks to her kindness.”

On August 17, 2023, LTCC and the LTCC Foundation hosted a heartfelt event at the LMUC to celebrate Lisa Maloff’s life, generosity, and enduring legacy. Guests were invited to tour the building that bears her name, share memories, and raise a glass to the woman whose vision made it all possible.
Though Lisa Maloff is no longer with us, her impact continues to ripple through the South Lake Tahoe community she loved so dearly. Every meeting, every class, every degree earned at the LMUC is a testament to her belief in building a better future.
